Beautiful Body Beautiful Tonic ~ Whole Body Tonic ~ Paper

Beautiful Body Beautiful Tonic
by NADINE, N.D., C.N.S.

It is a new morning. Maybe you too are greeting your day with the desire to BE Alive and to FEEL Alive. What better way than to feed your body a tonic that addresses the overall health and vitality of your heart, lungs, liver, stomach and digestive track, bowels, eyes, skin, nerves, blood and glands. And that, my friend, is the purpose of the Beautiful Body Beautiful Tonic. May you enjoy an overall feeling of AAAAhhhhh as you create this blend.

Intake form: Capsule, Tea or Herbal Bath. I believe the capsule form will be the easiest and most convenient form of intake. However I personally would like to try this as a tea and herbal bath. Instructions for all methods are listed below.

Capsule Instructions: Pulverize each of your herbs into a fine powder. You can do this using your handy-dandy kitchen coffee grinder. Measure out herb portions as listed below. Blend well. Fill “00” gelatin or vegetable capsules with your concoction. Have FUN while doing this task, as your energy will go into your capsules. Fill them with wonderful thoughts.

Tea Instructions: Using a glass pot, bring a pint-quart of water to a rolling boil. Reduce the heat and Insert your herbs. Steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain your tea making sure to squeeze all the water out of your marc (herbal residue). Enjoy this wonderful addition to your health and well-being. Note one part is usually one ounce. You can adjust your part to fit your needs.

Herbal Bath Instructions: Herbal preparations added to a bath enhance and stimulate the skin and blood supply while the herbs’ medicinal and tonic actions benefit the body organism as a whole. To prepare your herbal bath, prepare a quart of strong herbal tea. Add it to your bath water. Get naked, and then sink into your heavenly concoction. You might choose to drink a cup of hot tea while you are soaking in your herbal bath.

Suggested Intake: 2-12 capsules per day as desired. Generally, use more during periods of convalescence, poor health and high stress. As a tea, enjoy 1-3 cups a day. As an Herbal Bath, as often as you desire.

Contraindications: None. Vitamin C supplementation will enhance this blend’s effectiveness. Vitamin E supplementation is recommended when using any product that contains raw Alfalfa.

Choice of Herbs:
Sarsaparilla root (Smilax officinalis) 1 part
Siberian Ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus 1 part
Saw Palmetto berries (Serenoa repens-sabal) 1 part
Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) 1 part
Kelp (Laminaria, Macrocystis, Ascophyllym) 1 part
Apple Pectin
1 part

Alfalfa
(Medicago sativa) 1 part
Chaparral
(Larrea divaricata) 1 part
Burdock root (Arctium lappa) 1 part

Hawthorn
berries (Crataegus oxyacantha) 1 part
Goldenseal
root (Hydrastis Canadensis) 1 part
Yellow Dock
root (Rumex crispus) 1 part
Peppermint
leaf (Mentha piperita) 1/8 part
Ginger
root (Zigiber officinale) 1/8 part

Cayenne
(Capsicum annum) 1 /8 part

Validation of each Herb:
Sarsaparilla root (Smilax officinalis) ~ the high content of saponins in this herb attacks microbial substances within the blood stream and neutralizes them which makes this a great candidate for nerves, blood and glands. Sarsaparilla root is also a strong diuretic, stimulating the excretion of wastes such as uric acid and excess chloride.

Siberian Ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) ~ was chosen because it stimulates the central nervous system in small amounts and depresses it in large doses; projects the body and nervous system from stress; increases metabolic functions; increases physical and mental efficiency; lowers blood pressure and glucose levels when high, and raises them when low; increases gastrointestinal movement and tone; increases iron metabolism and causes changes in RNA biosynthesis.

Saw Palmetto berries (Serenoa repens-sabal) ~ was chosen for its effects on general health and disposition; tranquilization; appetite stimulation as well as digestion and nutrient assimilation; and its overall contribution to regulating sexual health/development and normalizing the reproductive health activity of the those glands and organs for both men and women.

Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) ~ the affect on the adrenal-pituitary system which stimulates and sustains proper adrenal function in an extremely complex manner by adjusting the concentrations of vital blood salts, is the primary reason I have included Licorice in this blend. Additionally, Licorice root protects the blood supply and enhances its purity by protecting the liver from serious diseases. It is also included in this blend because it modulates and strengthens the activity of other herbs.

Kelp (Laminaria, Macrocystis, Ascophyllum) ~ is a general nutritive tonic to the blood, supplying essential vitamins and mineral salts. It encourages the action of dietary fiber by supplying nutrients and normalizing bowel functions. Iodine, the primary constituent of Kelp activates and regulates metabolism. Kelp has also been included here since it can bind radioactive strontium, barium, cadmium and zinc, some of our most dangerous pollutants, in the gastrointestinal tract, thus prevents their absorption into the body. Kelp is neither carcinogenic nor toxic.

Apple Pectin ~ was chosen for its ability to bind with bile acids, which assists in decreasing cholesterol and fat absorption. Pectin also increases the excretion of neutral bile acids thus protecting the blood and tissue against various environmental toxins. Soviet research shows that heavy metals such as lead and mercury are excreted harmlessly from the body much more efficiently when pectin is included in the diet

Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) ~ induces activity in a complex cellular system that inactivates dietary chemical carcinogens in the liver and small intestine before they have a chance to do the body harm. Alfalfa has been shown to possess anti-bacterial actions against negative bacteria and contains at least one protein with known anti-tumor activity. Alfalfa is also a fiber that along with Bran and Pectin, bind and neutralize various types of carcinogenic agents in the colon.

Chaparral (Larrea divaricata) ~ NDGA, the primary constituent in Chaparral reduces inflammation by increasing ascorbic acid levels in the adrenals and inhibits several strains of bacteria, molds and other pathogens. It is used here for its antioxidant and anticancer activity as well as for healing the skin and bone tissue and in preventing pathogenic damage.

Burdock root (Arctium lappa) ~ I chose to include Burdock root as a cleanser, antibiotic and anti-fungal. It improves general nutrition and gradually alters the health of the blood. It is also diuretic and diaphoretic thus promotes the excretion of wastes in both the urine and sweat.

Hawthorn berries (Crataegus oxyacantha) ~ is included for its overall enhancement on the health of the heart by: dilating the blood vessels away from the heart; increasing enzyme metabolism of the heart muscle; increasing oxygen utilization of the heart; and enhancing pulse and cardiac output. The combination of Hawthorn with Cayenne produces a special kind of synergism that augments the cardio tonic activity of both herbs.

Goldenseal root (Hydrastis Canadensis) ~ is included in my blend as a potent antibiotic and antiseptic; for reducing infection and inflammation in the eyes; and for its berberine alkaloids that stimulate bile production and secretion, thus destroying noxious bacteria in the GI tract.

Yellow Dock root (Rumex crispus) ~ is included primarily for its affect on liver functionality and related organs as it increases the ability to strain and purify the blood. I am also using it here to assist with the health of the skin and for its antibacterial properties.

Peppermint leaf (Mentha piperita) ~ the essential oils in the Peppermint leaf enhance digestive activity by stimulating contractile activity in the gallbladder and by encouraging the secretion of bile. Peppermint leaf oils also normalize gastrointestinal activity, remove flaccidity, and reduce stomach cramps. In addition, Peppermint leaf prevents congestion of the blood supply to the brain, helps to clear up any circulatory congestion that exists, stimulates circulation and strengthens and calms nerves. Included also for its anti-ulcer, anti-inflammatory and choleretic principles.

Ginger root (Zigiber officinale) ~ is included here primarily as a digestive enzyme and a stimulant against fatigue. Ginger produces a generalized stimulant effect that diffuses slowly from the GI tract, gently energizing the blood, thus producing a feeling of warmness counteracting fatigue.

Cayenne (Capsicum annum) ~ is used here for its positive effects on circulation, the heart, the stomach and all other systems of the body. Cayenne will lower blood cholesterol levels and reduce blood pressure. It also ensures the rapid and even distribution of the active principles of the rest of the herbs to critical functional centers of the body, including those involved in cellular respiration, metabolism, data transmission and neural-hormonal activation. In extremely small quantities it can dramatically increase the efficiency of most other herbs.

The Beauty of Detoxification and Cleansing ~ Paper

The Beauty of Detoxification and Cleansing
by NADINE, N.D., C.N.S.

Cleansing, detoxifying and assisting the body in the elimination of accumulated toxins provide a way for the whole body system to regain balance, harmony and alignment. The human body is an incredible healing machine and when given the support it needs, will heal itself, since all healing comes from within.

Toxins accumulate from a variety of reasons including but not limited to: stress, the use of antibiotics; improper diet including a high intake of refined wheat, refined sugar, artificial sweeteners, too much of, or a lack of protein; and a lack of stomach acid. One of the prime functions of stomach acid is to facilitate the breakdown of proteins. Low stomach acid may prevent the complete breakdown of proteins, preventing them from being fully assimilated thus leaving food for bacteria to grow. We can detoxify the body and assist it in eliminating those toxins using eliminative herbs that act as laxatives, diuretics, diaphoretics and blood purifiers.

The goals of detoxification and cleansing are to assist the whole body system to realign, regain balance and harmony thus promoting an overall feeling of health and well-being. Many positive affects can be achieved and enjoyed through this process. These might include: increased energy levels; improved mental clarity and function; improved digestion and elimination; enhanced immune system and resistance to infection of illness; and improved blood circulation with healthy glowing skin. A person might also achieve an inner spiritual awareness, heighten senses, and increased levels of joy and happiness.

There are many formulas available to detoxify and cleanse the body ranging from a general point of view to accommodating an individual’s specific health condition. (i.e. cleansing the liver, preventing cancer, removing candida overgrowth, improving bowel moments, etc.) The intention of the formula presented here is to provide a general detoxification and cleansing opportunity in any person desiring to achieve an overall sense of well-being by the removal of unwanted toxins.

Detoxification & Cleansing Herbal Combination

Intake form: Capsules. This form was chosen for its ease in delivery.

Mixing Instructions: Fill “00” gelatin or vegetable capsules with a well-blended combination of the powders of the following herbs

Suggested Intake: Detoxification, purification & cleansing programs: 3-4 capsules, 2-3 times per day, with meals. For Routine Maintenance: 2-4 capsules daily with meals.

Choice of Herbs:
Dandelion root (Taraxacum officinale) 3 parts
Yellow Dock
root (Rumex Crispus) 3 parts
Chapparal
(Larrea divaricata) 3 parts
Licorice
root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) 1 part
Burdock
root (Arctium lappa) 1 part
Cascara Sagrada
bark (Rhamnus purshiana) 1 part
Kelp
(Laminaria, Macrocystis, Ascophyllym) 1 part
Echinacea
(Echinacea augustifolia) 1 part
Cayenne
(Capsicum annum) 1 part

Validation of each Herb:
Dandelion root ~ strains and filters toxins and wastes from the bloodstream thus primarily acts by purifying the blood. A healthy liver is required to provide effective blood detoxification. Dandelion stimulates bile production and helps the body get rid of excess water produced by the diseased liver. Dandelion extracts are also beneficial to the spleen and improve the health of the pancreas.

Yellow Dock root ~ also primarily affects liver function and the health of related organs, increasing their ability to strain and purify the blood. Yellow Dock also has antibacterial properties.

Chapparal ~ NDGA, the primary constituent in Chaparral reduces inflammation by increasing ascorbic acid levels in the adrenals and inhibits several strains of bacterial, molds and other pathogens. It is used here for its antioxidant and anticancer activity as well as for healing the skin and bone tissue and in preventing pathogenic damage. Though often called creosote bush, Chapparral contains no creosote.

Licorice root ~ stimulates and sustains proper adrenal function in an extremely complex manner by adjusting the concentrations of vital blood salts. Additionally Licorice root protects the blood supply and enhances its purity by protecting the liver from serious diseases.

Burdock root ~ as an alternative Burdock root improves general nutrition and gradually alters the health of the blood. It is also diuretic and diaphoretic thus promotes the excretion of wastes in both the urine and sweat. This powerful herb thus helps cleanse the body of toxins and wastes in three ways. It also has antibiotic and antifungal principals.

Cascara Sagrada bark ~ is the primary laxative in this herbal combination. The laxative in any detoxification blend is meant to aid in the removal of consolidated, bacterial-laden waste matter that accumulates in the large intestine during periods of illness. Cascara eases the passage of this material without producing griping, cramping, diarrhea or constipative rebound.

Kelp ~ is a general nutritive tonic to the blood, supplying essential vitamins and mineral salts. It encourages the action of dietary fiber by supplying nutrients and normalizing bowel functions. Iodine, the primary constituent of Kelp activates and regulates metabolism. Kelp is an important adjunct to any cleansing program since it can bind radioactive strontium, barium, cadmium and zinc, some of our most dangerous pollutants, in the gastrointestinal tract, thus prevents their absorption into the body. Kelp is neither carcinogenic nor toxic.

Echinacea ~ is another classical alternative which increases the phagocytic activity of the white blood cells to fight, destroy and eat toxic organisms that invade the body. It increases and stabilizes the red blood cell count and stimulates the elimination of waste products. Echinacea significantly stimulates the body’s own blood cleansing system.

Cayenne ~ is used here as a catalyst to stimulate the vital organs to greater activity. It promotes cardiovascular activity, lowers overall blood pressure, and acts directly as a diaphoretic, stimulating excretion of wastes in the sweat.

Additional suggestions: Detoxification and cleansing can be greatly enhanced with dry skin brushing. Brush dry skin immediately before showering or bathing, start with the feet and gently brush up toward the heart. Brush from the extremities toward the center. Brush gently in a circular motion around your abdomen and breast/chest area. A proper dry skin brush is made of vegetable bristles that are neither too stiff nor too soft. It shouldn’t scratch, but you should feel some friction against the skin

ASK Dr Nadine ~ response for Omega 3’s for Heart and Joint Health

Hello Carol, and thank you for the kudo’s on the ‘new look’ of the blog. In response to your question about Omega 3?s for heart and joint health.
The essential fatty acids (EFA) include linoleic, linolenic and arachidonic adics, known as vitamin F. They are all polyunsaturated fatty acids that cannot ordinarily be synthesized by the body. Alpha-linolenic, an Omega-3 found in special oils such as Flax seed (linseed), and Udo’s Blend, is also essential and is the precursor of the other important Omega-3 oils EPA and DHA commonly found in fish. Ideally we need more Flaxseed and Fish Oils than any other.

EFA’s the are important for normal growth, the health of the blood vessels and nerves, and to keep the skin and other tissues lubricated and youthful. A general Health recommendation is that our diet provide between 20-30 percent of our overall caloric intake from Healthy Fats. That might look like 1 TBS of Flaxseed oil in meal #1, then 3 Fish Oil capsules spread throughout the day in other meals in addition to other fats.

YOUR adult, with prior ligament injuries, will find greater HEALING results with increased Fish Oil quantities. The quantity will greatly depend on how THEY are processing the fat and how much inflammation they have. Others who have experienced similar issues have found healing with the following regime:
* begin with 1 TBS of Flaxseed oil + 3 Fish Oil capsules a day.
* increase to 1 TBS of Flaxseed oil (twice a day) + 6 Fish Oil capsules a day
* Keep the Flaxseed the same and increase to 9 Fish Oil Capsules a day.

I would like to hear more about how your adult progresses. Remember Tumeric also will reduce inflammation. And NO SUGAR!!!!!! Sugar increased inflammation.

Are you TURNED ON?

Are You TURNED On?

By NADINE N.D.

You most likely started reading this article thinking it was about your libido. Sorry to disappoint you. This time around it is all about your metabolism.

FOOD is FUEL! By eating the right kinds of food and the right quantity of food you can turn your metabolism on. The body’s metabolism is the internal furnace. More heat is generated when more logs are added to the fire. Thus, when the metabolism is spinning in high gear the body burns food as fuel rather than storing it as fat. Do you know if your body is working for you or against you?

Take a moment to do a pinch test, or take a peek in the mirror. If you are sporting one of those “It’s not fat honey, its prosperity” bulges; have ‘love’ handles; or your main form of exercise is rolling over while watching TV or taking a trip to the fridge, there is a pretty good chance your metabolism is not working for you. Other indicators include: fatigue, bad breath, lack of hunger, insomnia, foul taste in the mouth, low blood pressure, constipation or diarrhea. The BIG indicator of whether your body is turned on or off is by looking at your food.

Most people think food is pleasure, food is social, or food is enjoyment. The bottom line is most Americans under eat and over train. On average I would say that 98% of my clients enter my doors under eating because they ‘heard’ somewhere along the way that “If I eat less, I’ll lose weight.” These same folks are also doing excessive amounts of cardiovascular exercise. Why? Because they believe that more exercise means more weight loss! However, eating less and doing more exercise creates a caloric deficit, meaning the body is burning more calories than it is taking in. Liken this to driving a car at 75 mph with an empty gas tank. When the car runs out of fuel it stops. End of story! When the body is pushed into a caloric deficit it will usually hit a plateau and stick, gain weight, or a combination of the two. Based on results…under eating and over training is not the way to go.

The daily food intake, or diet, is comprised of protein, carbohydrates, fat and water. Protein feeds muscle tissue, allows the body to heal itself, and form new cells, new tissue etc. Every cell from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet requires protein. Yet this is one of the most under eaten forms of food. The bare minimum amount of protein that should be eaten on a daily basis is 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight. For the sake of easy calculation, an average person who does minimal exercise and weighs 190 pounds should be eating 190 grams of protein on a daily basis. That is just to maintain lean muscle tissue. The body requires more than that to build muscle and form new tissue.

Most adults need about 15 percent of their daily energy in the form of fat. Fats in the diet usually take care of themselves so you do not need to go looking for them. Linoleic acid and linolenic acid, however, are two polyunsaturated fatty acids (Omega-3 and Omega-6) needed by the body for basic functionality. These two essential fatty acids cannot be made in the body from scratch; their nutrients therefore must be supplied by foods.

Water is the most indispensable nutrient in the body. Not only is it the major transport system bringing each cell the exact nutrients needed, it is also the body’s cleansing agent. Water makes up about 60 percent of the body’s weight and 75 percent of a muscle cell. The minimum daily water requirement for a 190-pound person is 0.55 times 190, which equals 105 ounces. More water is needed if the body is dehydrated from lack of intake, exercise, sunburn, excessive heat etc. Signs of dehydration include: thirst, rough dry skin, dry mouth, low blood pressure, fatigue, foul smelling urine, reduced urine output, clothing rings on your skin, sheet marks on your skin when you wake up, and water retention. If the body is dehydrated… drink more water… if the body is retaining fluid that means the cells are holding onto whatever water supply they could find. By drinking more water, not soft drinks or coffee, the cells will open up and start transporting nutrients throughout the body.

Carbohydrates are the most direct source of glucose, the most important fuel source in the body. Yet, due to a lack of knowledge, carbs are treated as the bad guy. The body requires fuel every 2-3 hours. Once the body trusts that it will receive the needed fuel on a consistent basis, it will then respond back to you by burning the glucose it is getting from the carbs as fuel rather than storing them as fat. Thus, by eating more, and eating more often, the metabolism turns on and the body begins to burn more calories… even at rest. On the flip side, when the body does not receive the fuel it needs, it then enters a catabolic state (starvation mode), switches to self-preservation and shuts down!!!!

Right about now you might be saying, “I eat when I am hungry!”…Ok, I’ll bite. Let’s say you are sitting at your desk, tummy ‘filled’ from eating that Krispy Kreme at 0-dark-thirty with your morning caffeine hit from Starbucks. You are in the middle of a deadline; the phone has been ringing off the hook; you are bouncing between four instant messages and have 15 emails yet to be read. Round about mid morning your stomach says, “I’m hungry!” You swallow more coffee and munch on a few Twizler sticks. Hearing gurgling from the southern region of your stomach you know that bad boy is happy so you keep working. A bit later your stomach lets you know loud and clear…”Heh Dude, I’m hungry!!!!” You look up making note of the clock, there is that deadline don’t ya know, and, visualizing the sandwich crammed in the back of the fridge make a decision to ‘grab something later’. No longer feeling those hunger pangs you think things are just fine in stomach-ville. WRONG ANSWER. By now, both the digestive system and the metabolism have slowed way down; your body has figured out that you are not going to feed it and has gone hunting for food elsewhere.

Now you may be arguing… “That’s a good thing… my body will eat my FAT.” Wrong Again! The body loves fat. It can live off fat for a very long time. In fact, fat is the very last thing the body holds on to before it dies. When the body enters a catabolic state or starvation mode, rather than eating the stored fat on the body, it actually hoards the fat (self preservation) and goes for the next available food source, which is your muscle tissue. It gets worse!!! Not only is your body in hoard mode because it has no clue when you are going to feed it again, when you finally DO decide to eat, it hordes everything coming IN as well. Double Slam. The body grabs the calories from your quick easy fast food meal adding on to its life saving supply. Basically the fat just got fatter.

Eat more often to assist with quicker digestion and spinning your metabolism into high gear. Break your daily food intake, comprised of good sources of protein, carbs and fat, into 6 smaller meals, feeding your body every 2-3 hours. Keep the body hydrated so each cell receives valuable nutrients and carries toxins away.

Good sources of protein include: chicken, turkey breast, fish, lean cuts of red meat, shellfish, low fat cottage cheese, etc. Sources of ‘good’ fat include those high in EFA’s (essential fatty acids): leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, flaxseed oil, soybeans, salmon, tuna, etc. Choosing carbs and understanding the role they play in the body is like building a fire. A fire is started with very intense hot heat, burning quickly and dying rapidly. This then lights the kindling, the twigs that give a short burn. Once the kindling is burning steadily, logs can be added to the fire. They may need to be stoked from time to time, however hours of heat and enjoyment can be had from well-placed logs. Carbs come in the following forms:

SIMPLE Carbs (sugar, donuts, candy, fruit, soft drinks, etc) are those foods that have an intense burn and quickly die out. We call them simple carbs because they are simple to find, simple to grab, simple to eat. While these give an intense burn, they are not a good source for fuel and make it difficult to stabilize the blood sugar levels. You experience extreme highs then lows while the body stores these guys as fat.
FIBROUS Carbs (veggies) are the kindling in the diet. Fibrous carbs are typically low in calories, can be filling and are excellent sources of fiber. They get the fire going but cannot sustain the burn for very long.
COMPLEX Carbs (rice, beans, legumes, pasta, etc) are the logs on the fire. They break down slowly and release glucose gradually into the bloodstream keeping the blood sugar levels stable. Eating a potato (not fries), a cup of pasta, or rice will fuel the body for a good 2-3 hours allowing the metabolism to spin into high gear.

You now have the knowledge to treat food as fuel! Eat the right kinds of food and slowly increase the quantity of food to turn on your metabolism. With your metabolism spinning in high gear your body is now working FOR rather than against you! After all, 80 percent of How you look is what goes in your mouth.

Set yourself up for Success! With nothing to risk, rather gains to make and goals to set, it would be advantageous to chart your course by having your diet analyzed. A Diet Analysis will provide information on your current caloric intake of protein, carbs and fat as well as provide information on your sugar and sodium intake. With Knowledge you are then Empowered to make choices to Turn ON Your Body! And heh, when you start feeling more energy and are excited about creating a leaner stronger body… I bet your libido will benefit as well!!!!
